Breathing

Breathing in, I know I am breathing in.
Breathing out, I know I am breathing out.
Thich Nhat Hanh

I love this quote from the Vietnamese Buddhist Thich Nhat Hanh. Paying attention to one's breath, is such a great way to center oneself in the present. And, the nice thing about breathing is that you can do it anywhere!

For today, I am going to pay attention to my breathing. If I feel upset or anxious or tense, I'll say silently: Breathing in, I know I am breathing in...breathing out, I know I am breathing out.

Your blog is so inspirational and so beautifully done! Thankyou!! It is so personal, thoughtful and inclusive. It has inspired me to carry the sand painting theme to my daily practices. I have a Louise Hay desk calendar and at the end of each day, I am writing my 5 gratitudes on the back of the page for that day - and then tearing it up with gratitude for the day's blessings - like the sand paintings, the written gratitudes are gone, but the gratefulness remains in my heart.

Thanks Mary for your thoughtful comments! I'm glad this blog has inspired you and I have to say I love your idea of writing your daily gratitudes on the back of your Louise Hay calendar pages.
I thought it was interesting that in my yoga class this evening, my teacher brought the theme of breathing, the in breath and out breath, into the poses. I've thought a lot today about my breathing and about bringing a sense of awareness and mindfulness to my breath. It's a very calming practice.
